Foon Yew High School's women's basketball team was established in June 1978, and it has been 43 years since its inception. This is the gathering place for basketball enthusiasts in our school, assembling numerous brave souls who are passionate about basketball and work hard to excel. In 2020, due to the global outbreak of the novel coronavirus, Malaysia implemented a Movement Control Order, leading to the first-ever nationwide shift to online home-based learning, which directly altered the format of our basketball team's practices and activities.

In February 2020, the last tournament we participated in was the Johor Bahru Under-17 Basketball Championship organized by the Johor Bahru Basketball Association. The once-in-three-years All-Foon Yew Individual Sports Championship, which was supposed to be held in the same year, had to be cancelled due to the pandemic, becoming a major regret for our team members. During this challenging period, even though we couldn't practice outside, we didn't cease our training. Instead, we efficiently utilized advanced communication tools to conduct training through online classes. The pandemic might have halted competitions, but it couldn't halt the spirit of our basketball team members to continuously enhance their basketball skills. While we conducted tactical discussions through online classes, it deepened our understanding of basketball strategies.

In April, as the restrictions were slightly eased, the school allowed some groups to return for joint activities. However, due to the ongoing rise in confirmed cases, practice at school was still prohibited to ensure the students' safety. Even though we weren't accustomed to online training, it made us treasure the time we practiced together even more. During the pandemic, we encouraged each other and held onto our passion for basketball. Thinking about the possibility of standing on the podium in the future, we believe that all the persistence during this time will add a glorious page to Foon Yew's basketball history.

"As the wind will eventually break the waves, and the cloud-sailed vessel will sail across the vast sea," every year we set goals for ourselves, and this year, even in these special circumstances, is no exception. We hope that after the pandemic, our players can return to the basketball arena and create a new chapter that belongs to us.

宽柔中学女子篮球校队于1978年6月成立,至今已有43年。这里,是我校篮球爱好者的聚集地,集结了许多热爱篮球且努力拼搏的勇者。2020年因新型冠状病毒肆虐全球,马来西亚实行了行动管制令,全国首度进行 线上居家学习,直接改变了我们篮球队练习和活动的形式。 

2020年2月,由新山篮总所举办的新山县17岁以下篮球赛是我们目前为止参加的最后一项赛事。本该在同年举办的三年一次的全柔独中球类锦标赛却也因疫情肆虐而被迫取消了,这成为了队员们的一大遗憾。在这个疫情期间,即使无法外出训练,我们也依旧没有停止练习,而是善于利用通讯的发达,以网课的方式进行训练。疫情阻断了比赛,但阻止不了篮球校队队员们在篮球技术上精益求精的精神。虽是通过网课纸上谈兵,但也深化了我们的篮球战术。 

4月份因行管令的放宽,学校也开放部分团体回校进行联课活动,但由于确诊人数仍呈上升趋势,为了保障学生的安全,留校练习依旧被禁止。虽然我们不习惯网上练习方式,但这也使我们更加珍惜与队友一起练球的时光。疫情期间大家相互鼓励,坚持对篮球的热爱。想到以后也许有机会站上领奖台,相信那一刻所有的坚持都会让宽中篮球史上添 上光辉的一页。 

“长风破浪会有时,直挂云帆济沧海”,我们每年都会为自己设立目标,就算是在特殊情况的今年也不例外。期许疫情后,球员们可在篮球竞技场上驰骋,打出一篇属于我们的篇章。
